Breaking Free: A Life of Wellness, Travel, and Curiosity

From a PhD in neuroscience to a passion for luxury travel, I’m all about wellness, adventure, and a little indulgence—because self-care sometimes looks like a spa day and a glass of wine

All About Me

I’m Megan, the voice behind Rich Girl on a Break—a blog where wellness, luxury travel, and a little bit of science collide. My love for travel began when I moved to Germany at age 12, and since then, I’ve explored the world in every possible way. You could say it’s in my genes—my grandmother was a travel agent back in the day, and now, I’m always on the hunt for new adventures.

After earning my PhD in neuroscience, I spent 3 months traveling solo and quickly realized that nothing makes me feel more alive. Along the way, I also lost 150 pounds after VSG surgery, which completely reshaped how I approach travel, wellness, and indulgence. While I used to plan trips entirely around restaurants, now I’m all about balance—whether it’s a spa day, a short hike (I may weigh less, but I’ve never been super outdoorsy), or sipping cocktails on a patio.

I’m all about boutique hotels, especially if they’re family-owned and have a great story. There’s just something special about a place that feels like it has a soul. And as a scientist at heart, I tend to ask questions that dive a little deeper—so don’t be surprised if my posts touch on the science behind travel and wellness.

On this blog, you’ll find a mix of my luxury travel experiences, life after weight loss, interesting science takes, and even a travel tarot game—because sometimes, you just have to let fate decide your next destination.

Travel well, live fully, and let’s see where the journey takes us!
